Sow your seeds for success

MEASURING in at a monstrous 384cms, sunflowers in a Hexham garden dwarfed their growers.

Pictured at Down to Earth are Laura and Daniel Wills with their Russian Giant sunflower seeds ready to take part in the Courant‘s tallest sunflower competition.

Children Harry, Tom and Ruby Watson were the proud growers of the giant flowers which were crowned the tallest sunflowers in Tynedale through a competition run by the Hexham Courant.

By inviting our readers to post photographs of their plants on the Courant Facebook site, the competition grew intense.

This year, we are raising the bar and aiming even higher by encouraging even more readers to get involved.

Teaming up with Down to Earth Garden Centre, in Hexham, the Courant has packets of free sunflower seeds to give away to help get people started.

Independent seeds company Thompson and Morgan is providing the seeds for the competition and it is hoped that readers will take up the challenge to top last year’s winning entry.

To claim your free packet of sunflower seeds, present the voucher below at Down to Earth Garden Centre, on Tyne Mills Industrial Centre, Hexham.
