News in brief

VILLAGE halls in the parish of Wark are set to benefit from a local hotel’s castoffs.

Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant is donating furniture destined for the rubbish heap to both Wark Town Hall and Stonehaugh Community Hall.

A stack of chairs are currently being held in a container to be taken away, along with a range of other items, including a cooker and microwaves.

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to give Gilsland’s play area a clean-up.

The play area has swings and other attractions, including a zip slide, and is popular with children and families in the village.

A member of the play area committee told members of Thirlwall Parish Council: “We need someone to volunteer to help clean the playground. The greenery is also a bit overgrown.”

A CAR has been stolen from outside a garage in Ponteland.

The Renault Megane was taken from outside A & K Motors on Meadowfield Industrial Estate overnight on Sunday, November 17.

The car, valued at around £3,500, had been dropped off for an MOT and thieves stole its keys after breaking into the garage’s key drop off box.
