FIREFIGHTERS attended a farm in the Sinderhope area after receiving reports of a chimney fire.

An Allendale fire station crew attended the incident, at around 2.30pm last Thursday, after a fire began in the flue of a log burner.

It was soon extinguished and damage was minimal.

THIRLWALL Parish Council’s precept will stay at £6,000 for the second successive year.

The council decided at its latest meeting not to change the precept.

Parish clerk Lynn Rooney said the council has a “healthy current balance.”

THE Hexham branch of the Royal Air Force Association has a new welfare officer.

Local man Chris Gilding has past experience in the provision of welfare services by the association and is keen to help those in need of support in the area.

A MURAL featuring images of Gilsland could go up in the village’s bus shelter.

The artwork was carried out by youngsters working alongside local man Jim Barlow.

Chairing the latest Thirlwall Parish Council meeting, Coun. Christine Dixon suggested that the bus shelter would be an ideal place to display it.
