Matfen village notes

THE folks around Matfen certainly enjoy their exercise!

The lively Zumba classes continue on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm in Matfen village hall.

We have an excellent instructor in the form of Cliff and it is great fun for all ages, shapes and sizes.

Everyone is welcome, on a regular basis or just to give it a try, so do come along and enjoy the dance, the music and the camaraderie.

Matfen Karate Club is also doing well; nearly all the students have graded recently and got new coloured belts and they are a very enthusiastic and talented group of students.

The club is open to adults and to children from four years old.

Why not pop along to the village hall at 6pm on Friday evenings?

For this week only, the venue has changed because of the Matfen Fete, to Great Whittington village hall from 6pm until 7pm.

The club will also be at the fete so you can come and meet them and have a go at punching a pad!

Then there is the very well-established and successful table tennis club on Wednesday evenings and the person to contact for this is Derek Padgett on (01661) 886785.

Do come and join in with any of these activities – have some fun and get fitter!

ALL is organised for the Matfen village fête tomorrow from 1pm until 4pm; the stream has been cleared of weeds, the ducks are ready, the grass will be cut, the games are prepared, the prizes are bought – all we need now is wonderful weather and lots of folk!

Hexham Brass will get us in the mood from 1pm onwards; the children’s traditional races take place at 1.15pm, with the first duck race at 1.45pm.

Boats for the model boat race should be registered by 2pm, with the race at 2.15pm.

Meanwhile, there are lots of stalls, games and a variety of activities for all ages, with refreshments of all types, whether your taste is for sweet or savoury, hot or cold, fizzy or flat!

The second duck race is at 3pm and the fantastic raffle will be drawn at 3.30pm. So bring the children, persuade the teenagers that this village fête is definitely ‘cool’ (and fun too!) and come and enjoy.

As a super finale, from 5pm until 7pm, there will be live music outside the Black Bull hosted by Ali and Nigel.

The band is Cadillac ’56, a great ‘proper’ rock and roll band; wonderful music for what we hope will be a lovely summer evening.

We look forward to welcoming lots of visitors to Matfen!

THE next messy church will take place at Holy Trinity church, Matfen, on Sunday, July 13 from 3pm.

There are many hands-on activities and lots to keep little minds and hands busy.

It is completely free though donations are welcome and parents, children, babies, carers and grandparents are all invited.
