Janet, from Haydon Bridge, won the novice agility cup at the world famous dog show with her border collie Wish.

Victory came a year after Janet (pictured) was laid low following a hip replacement operation.

But the opportunity of leading Wish through the agility rounds at Crufts hastened her recovery.

She said: “Wish had qualified for the Olympia show, but we made a mess of it so I was determined not to do the same at Crufts.

“I think the nerves got to me and I didn’t give her enough instructions.

“But at Crufts, she was really good and she gave her best run.”

Hexham Courant photographer Tony Iley was also in the honours.

Jimmy, shown by Tony and his wife Daphne, was named best rough collie, and chosen as reserve breed champion.
