Hospital under way

BUILDING work is well under way on the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital that will cater for the whole of Northumberland and North Tyneside.
Located in Cramlington, it will be the first in England to have emergency care consultants on site 24/7.
Specialists in a broad range of subjects such as cardiology, stroke and respiratory conditions will also be available seven days a week.
Proponents say having emergency surgery services on one site means that planned operations at Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust’s three general hospitals – Hexham, Wansbeck and North Tyneside – should not be cancelled, even at busiest times.
The hospital is scheduled to open during 2015.

HAVING raised over £1,000 through prize draws, dances, whist drives and donations, Bellingham was able to buy its town hall.
So successful was the fund-raising that when all the debts were cleared more than £100 was left in the fund.
The hall could now be used by the town for all manner of social and public functions.
