Hexhamshire village notes

TODAY, the Shire Walkers stride forth on their monthly foray up and down the byways and footpaths of the beautiful Shire.

A morning of chatter, exercise and splendid views. Meet at the parish hall at 9.30am, and new walkers are always very welcome.

TOMORROW, come along to the parish hall for the spring table top sale.

A variety of exciting stalls will be selling their wares, with a tombola, cake stalls and refreshments to enjoy.

The doors open at 10am until 1pm and the small entrance fee will provide you with a free raffle ticket which will be drawn towards the end of the morning.

Please support this event as the money raised will go towards refurbishment of the hall.

A VERY exciting event is looming, especially for the taste buds.

Things will be cooking on Easter Saturday, April 19, at Slaley Commemoration hall with the Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers’ Heritage Cook Off event.

Drop in for a taste of the food that families ate in the eighteenth century, in the days before homes had ovens and when the lead industry was the main employer in the Dukesfield area.

Old fashioned recipes will be unearthed, tested and tasted from 11.30am until 6pm.

The Northumberland Sausage Company will be there, making and cooking sausages from an old fashioned recipe, and there will be displays of vintage kitchen equipment, butter making and local history.

There is even a chance to roll up your sleeves and have a go at making Easter biscuits, oat cakes and bread.

This is a free event which will appeal to families and anyone who loves food.
