THERE will be a Shire walk on March 7, meeting at the parish hall at 9.30am. Join the walkers as they look for signs of spring in the ponds and ditches of the Shire.

IF you fancy a day in the fresh air, come and join a group of volunteers cutting willow at Quaker’s Hole wetlands on Sunday, March 9.

EVENTS for the Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers Project are really kicking off.

The first event is a photography skills sharing session on Friday, March 7, and is being led by professional photographer Karen Melvin, who will host the event at her Slaley studio, and Iain Duncan, another local professional photographer.

The session will cover techniques for successful photography, both posed and natural shots, and will set participants up for going out on their own to help document other Dukesfield Smelters and Carriers project activities during the year.

There will be opportunities for some photographs to feature on the project’s web site and at future exhibitions.

This first event will run from 10am until 2pm, and it is free, however booking in advance is essential through Mandy Roberts by email at Dukesfield@outlook.com

ANOTHER free fantastic opportunity is to have a go at print making. There are three workshops in March and April led by Jan Baxandall, an inspiring and experienced professional printer and teacher.

She will take as her subjects any images inspired by the Dukesfield project.

The first two workshops, on woodcut techniques, will be held on Saturday, March 15, at St John’s Lee parish hall from 9.30am until 12.30pm and from 1.30pm until 4.30pm.

The third is working on dry point techniques and will be held at Slaley Commemoration hall on Saturday, April 5 from 10am until 4.30pm.

Again numbers are limited so advanced booking is essential through Mandy Roberts by email Dukesfield@outlook.com.

THE trustees of Whitley Chapel parish hall invite the community to their annual general meeting on Tuesday, March 18, at 7pm, in the parish hall. Please come and hear what is happening in your hall.

TABLES are now ready for booking for the Whitley Chapel parish hall table top sale on Saturday, April 5. Contact Austin Illiffe on (01434) 673325.
