Call for motor boat ban

MOTOR boats should be banned from Hexham's Tyne Green, according to town councillor Matty Donnelly.

He was speaking in the wake of an incident last month, when the engine of a rubber dinghy cut out, and the family on board were left marooned on the dangerous weir under the Tyne Bridge.

He said: “Having motor boats on Tyne Green is a matter of great concern to me, as well as people enjoying paddle sports there.

“I am sure there used to be a bye-law which stated that motorised craft were not allowed on that part of the river and I would like to confirm whether or not it is still in force.”
