Bardon Mill: Spring date for hall opening

A NEW village hall for Bardon Mill and Henshaw is on course for completion by the spring.

And residents of the two neighbouring villages are looking forward to making the most of the £500,000 facility.

The hall, which will be environmentally and carbon friendly, is being built on the site of the former Bardon Mill Colliery, near Redburn Park.

It will offer a large function room, smaller meeting rooms, a kitchen, and storage space and will host parent and toddler groups and an art club. It is also hope that it will become home to a youth club and sports classes.

Chairman of the Bardon Mill and Henshaw Community Village Hall Projects Group Dorothy Welsh, said: “Everything is on schedule and we are looking forward to getting the place up and running.”

The projects group secured £379,938 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities Programme in May last year, and raised £143,167 locally for the project.
