Kieran Grieve has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Lisa Flanagan at their home in Oakleigh Way, Botcherby, last year.
A jury at Carlisle Crown Court took five hours and 44 minutes to reach a majority verdict.
Grieve was sentenced to life imprisonment - a sentence of 15 years - for strangling Lisa in a jealous rage after finding a secret mobile phone with details of another lover.
Lisa's family, who were in court to hear the verdict, clapped and cried out as the guilty verdict was read out.
Grieve, 27, shook his head and showed no emotion.
Lisa's body was discovered on June 26, 2004, lying under a duvet in their bedroom when police broke into the couple's flat after Lisa's mother raised the alarm and reported her missing.
