Jail warning to Carlisle man who admitted carrying knife

A man who admitted carrying a knife in Carlisle has been warned that he could face prison.

Stephen Lavery, 33, of Webster Crescent, Carlisle, pleaded guilty at Carlisle Crown Court to having the kitchen knife, which had an eight-inch blade, in Sunnymeade, Upperby, on March 18.

He also pleaded guilty to a charge of affray.

Lavery was warned by Judge Paul Batty QC that this was a very “serious matter” and told that all sentencing options, including custody, remained open to the court.

He was given bail and will be sentenced on July 10.
