Wylam fall at semi-finals stage

VALIANT Wylam gave it their best shot but fell agonisingly short in the Northumberland FA Sunday Minor Cup.

The current table toppers in the Hexham and District Sunday League missed out on a place in the final as they went down to the only goal of the game in their semi-finals tie with Cramlington Benedictine.

In a further blow, they saw title rivals Stocksfield reduce the gap at the top to just one point as they overcame the challenge of The Falcon Prudhoe to win 3-2.

Ryton and Crawcrook Albion cemented fourth spot as they heaped further pressure on bottom club Rose and Crown Bellingham courtesy of a 4-1 triumph.

Meanwhile, Hexham Phoenix picked up the points as they defeated Prudhoe Town 3-1.

The two will battle it out again next weekend for the chance to meet Haltwhistle Conservatives in the final of the Tommy Jackson Presidents Cup after the only goal of the game over Allendale guaranteed Halty's place.

Bardon Mill got their own back on Prudhoe Social Club after missing out on the Division Two title to them, the Millers reaching the semis of the John Pickworth League Cup with thanks to a 3-1 victory over their rivals.

There was a shock in the Division Two KO Cup as Swinburne Arms Stamfordham picked up their first victory of the season in beating Warden Boatside 3-1 to make the final four.

In the only game in the Mick Simmons Trophy, Dr Syntax Prudhoe and Chopwell Phoenix played out a 2-2 draw.
