Tynedale try again down in Loughborough

BUOYED by coming within seconds of claiming the scalp of leaders Doncaster Knights, Tynedale travel to an out-of-sorts Loughborough Students on Saturday.

In the rearranged fixture following the recent postponement, Tyne will line up against a side with only two wins from their past nine fixtures under their belts.

Loughborough looked to have put their blues behind them as they raced into a 21-0 lead after half an hour over third placed Esher at the weekend.

However, they capitulated from that point in and ended up losing 24-21 as Esher countered their three converted tries with three of their own and a penalty.

After winning five from their opening six fixtures, the Students have dropped down to ninth in the table following a torrid run of form.

The only bright spots have come courtesy of a 16-10 win over Henley Hawks in December and a 28-20 triumph over Worthing Raiders, both at home, in January. In their 10 home games this year, Loughborough have won half and lost the other half, scoring 31 tries and conceding 35 tries. Sixty per cent of tries conceded have come in the second half.

Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 2pm, with Esher the next team to visit Tynedale Park on March 1.
