Tynedale keep up winning momentum

HAVING won just one of their previous nine encounters, Tynedale are boasting a 100 per cent record in 2014.

Although only two games in, the boys in blue and white are starting to believe they can achieve the unexpected and jump out of the relegation zone.

They followed up last week's fantastic win over Old Albanians with a brilliant five point 27-14 triumph away to the league's surprise package Wharfedale.

Tynedale were superior in all departments and raced into a 12-3 lead after 20 minutes, Ben Frankland and Hamish Smales crossing the line to cancel out a third minute lead from a penalty for the hosts.

An error strewn performance from Wharfedale soon saw Tyne extend their lead with Gavin Beasley converting Matthew Charters' try to take the advantage to 16 points.

Tyne again went knocking and Beasley's penalty was exchanged with a second succesful attempt from Wharfedale as the teams turned around with the score 22-6 in the visitors' favour.

A bonus point was in the bag for Tynedale as they scored their fourth after the break, while Wharfedale responded with a try and a penalty in consolation as it ended 27-14.

It was the perfect preparation for Tyne as they host relegation rivals Blackheath in a crunch game on Saturday.
