Top two going for cup glory

THE Hexham and District Sunday League title race takes a back seat this weekend as the two leading teams tough it out for a place in the cup final.

Seven days after league champs Halty took a giant step towards reclaiming their crown by defeating Wylam 2-0, the two teams will again meet in the John Pickworth League Cup semi-finals on Sunday.

The winner of that tie will then book a place in the final to battle it out with either Hexham Phoenix or Division Two's Bardon Mill, who go head-to-head at the weekend.

Rose and Crown Bellingham need victories in all three of their remaining games to avoid the drop on goal difference, starting with Sunday's trip to Allendale, the only team they can catch.

Elsewhere, Ryton and Crawcrook Albion and Barrasford meet as they go looking to improve their league positions of fourth and sixth respectively.

In the Mick Simmons Trophy, Stocksfield host Division Two side Swinburne Arms Stamfordham while Prudhoe Social Club travel to Acomb Welfare in an all-Division Two affair.
