Resurgent Stocksfield hit five

STOCKSFIELD made it two wins in two as they thumped out of sorts Gateshead Rutherford 5-0.

Following their 3-0 win over Hebburn Reyrolle the week before, the Griffins collected a sixth point from six on offer as they moved up to ninth spot.

Slipping to third in the process, Wallington lost ground on Premier Division leaders Walker Central as they narrowly lost out 2-1.

While remaining five points from safety in Division One, Heddon moved seven clear of bottom placed Willington Quay Saints as they defeated the fellow strugglers 4-3.

Hexham are one point better off in their fight to beat the drop as they picked up a useful 1-1 draw with Newcastle University, while Ponteland United are up to eighth as a result of their 2-0 success over third placed Wooler.

There was a massive win for Ryton and Crawcrook Albion in Division Two of the Northern League as they defeated third bottom Brandon United 4-1 to move to within two points of second bottom Esh Winning.

It was a bad day for local clubs involved in county cup action, Prudhoe Town eliminated from the Northumberland FA Senior Benevolent Bowl quarter-finals by going down 3-1 to Shankhouse while Chopwell were denied a place in the Durham FA Minor Cup final as they lost 3-2 at home to Shildon Railway.

But Tynedale Ladies made it to the semi-finals of the Northumberland FA Women's Cup as they defeated Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies 5-2.
