Prudhoe promoted before Christmas

ON the first day of December, Hexham and District Sunday League newcomers Prudhoe Social Club secured their promotion to Division One.

In a remarkable campaign to date for the newly formed team, they have yet to be beaten in their 13 league games to date to make sure their stay in the lower league was a brief one.

Having only dropped points in a shock 3-3 draw to bottom club Swinburne Arms, their 3-1 victory at third placed Warden Boatside was enough to guarantee a top two finish.

The only team which can catch them and prevent them lifting the title is Bardon Mill who remain six points off following their comfortable 6-0 win over second bottom Acomb Welfare. They require just two points from their reamining three fixtures to join Prudhoe.

Dr Syntax Prudhoe are playing for third place now and moved to within three points of Warden as they narrowly defeated Phoenix Chopwell 2-1.

Meanwhile, Stamfordham picked up their second point of the campaign when they held hosts Hexham Hearts to a goalless draw.
