Early hope vanishes for Tynedale

DESPITE getting the scoreboard ticking early on, Tynedale endured an away day drubbing at runaway leaders Doncaster Knights.
A penalty early doors from Gavin Beasley showed signs of promise for the struggling boys from Corbridge, but that was soon extinguished.
When Beasley was taken off with an injured wrist on 15 minutes with the score at 7-3 to Doncaster, all hope for Tyne seemed to evaporate.
And they had a torrid time of it, eventually losing 55-3 to keep them firmly planted in the relegation drop zone.
The district's other rugby teams are experiencing tough times too, Ponteland losing 29-6 at Guisborough in Durham and Northumberland League One and Prudhoe and Stocksfield being thumped 77-0 at North Shields in League Two.

A workman was buried alive while digging a drain in the Prudhoe Urban Council's housing estate at Oaklands.
Workmates rushed to the aid of 50-year-old Richard Barclay, of Stocksfield, when the wall of the trench he was digging collapsed.
They managed to dig his head and shoulders free before finally pulling him from the earth. He was found to be suffering from shock and bruising.
