Double figures for Haltwhistle

HALTWHISTLE Conservatives jumped up to second in the Hexham and District Sunday League as they hit double figures.

Originally scheduled to play Prudhoe Town in the final of the Tommy Jackson President's Cup at Wentworth, the teams met in league action due to a waterlogged surface in Hexham.

And Haltwhistle blew Town away, picking up three vital points courtesy of a whopping 11-4 triumph.

Hexham Phoenix boosted their chances of survival as they left it late to scrape a 4-3 victory over relegation rivals The Falcon Prudhoe.

Meanwhile, the only goal of the game earned Ryton and Crawcrook Albion the points over bottom club Rose and Crown Bellingham.

In the only game in Division Two, Haydon Bridge Anchor moved up to third as they defeated Phoenix Chopwell 6-1.

Prudhoe Social Club went one better and won 7-1 at Hexham Hearts as the two Division Two teams met in the Mick Simmons Trophy.
