Dark day for Tynedale footballers

IT was a bad weekend for the district's Saturday senior football teams as they were on the receiving end of some high scorelines.
Having secured the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup last season, Prudhoe Town fell at the first hurdle this time round as they lost 5-1 at home to Stockton Town.
Stocksfield's long trip to Carlisle City ended in disappointment as they were thumped 7-1 in Northern Alliance Division One, while Heddon shipped in 11 when they hosted Gosforth Bohemians in the Bay Plastics Combination Cup.
Also failing to progress past the first round of the cup was Ponteland United after going down 4-1 in extra time at Wooler, while Hexham lost 2-0 to Newcastle Chemfica (Independent).
A bright spot from the dark day was Wallington's 3-2 win at Wallsend Town in the Bay Plastics Challenge Cup.
Meanwhile, Ryton and Crawcrook Albion lost 3-0 at home to Northallerton Town in Division Two of the Northern League.

THREE watercolour paintings donated by Queen Mary were auctioned off to raise money for a new Darby and Joan club in Hexham.
A site had already been bought, but a further £6,000 was needed to run the club for the elderly.
The auction, opened by Viscountess Allendale, saw the paintings raise over £8 for the fund.
