Big crowds expected at Tynedale Park

ONE of the biggest crowds of the season is expected at Corbridge on Saturday for the visit of Wharfedale.
Like Tynedale, the Yorkshire outfit have had a mixed start to the season, with one win and two defeats.
Three weeks ago they beat Worthing Raiders 38-34 at Threshfield but nearly threw it away by conceding four tries in the last ten minutes.
The following week they conceded five tries in a 34-21 defeat at Fylde, and last Saturday leaked four tries in a 29-26 home defeat to Loughborough Students – so defence is not their strong point.
Their danger man is fly half Tom Barrett who scored all their points last week with seven penalties and a try, and has so far amassed 55 of his side’s seasonal tally of 85.
With another difficult away trip to Blackheath looming, it is vital that Tynedale get back to winning ways.
The game kicks off at 3pm, and the afternoon also features a game between the two sides’ second teams.
In Durham and Northumberland One, Ponteland host Novocastrians and Prudhoe and Stocksfield welcome Whitley Bay Rockcliff in Division Two.

THREE watercolour paintings donated by Queen Mary were auctioned off to raise money for a new Darby and Joan club in Hexham.
A site had already been bought, but a further £6,000 was needed to run the club for the elderly.
The auction, opened by Viscountess Allendale, saw the paintings raise over £8 for the fund.
