Animal lover opens Asda Supermarket on Carlisle retail park

Asda this morning opened its second shop in Carlisle.
The store, on the St Nicholas Retail Park, off London Road, has undergone a £500,000 conversion from Netto to Asda and will stock more than 10,000 grocery products.
Animal lover Elizabeth McDonagh officially opened the shop following an appeal in the News & Star for a community hero to mark the occasion.
Of the nominations received, she was chosen by manager Neil Cheesebrough in recognition of the hard work she puts in at Penny Jones Animal Hospice in Hethersgill, where she helps abused and abandoned animals.
She was also the first customer to shop there, receiving a £50 gift card.
Mr Cheesebrough said: “We’re delighted to have Elizabeth join us at the opening of our new store, it’s really important for us to involve members of the local community.
“We’ll work hard to ensure we play our part helping our other neighbours out in the future by getting involved with future events and good causes.
“We wanted to bring the convenience of the supermarket to the High Street, giving our customers the opportunity to complete a full weekly shop in our new, smaller stores. It will be great to see the doors open on our new store in Carlisle.”
The Netto takeover is part of the retail giant’s plan to have 250 Asda Supermarkets open by 2015, complementing its existing superstores and supercentres.
Asda has a large supermarket at Kingstown in Carlisle. The prices will be the same in both Asda stores.
The new St Nicholas store will stock the full range of Asda’s own label food ranges, including Smart Price, Chosen By You, Extra Special and Organics.
It will be open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Stop moaning about how small the shop is! Its not a superstore!

its a lot better than nettos, at least i can use there carry bags free of charge and not be told the cashier is going on her break and to join another que,it was busy first day and a bit of a cattle market but suppose that will improve as the week goes by,.nice variety of stock and no tempting items like clothes and cds to buy, good luck asda hope you do well there.
